About Me

A Healthier and Happier Me

My name is Andy Marks. A middle aged man trying to at least partly control my health destiny through diet change, I started on a whole food-plant based diet around age 48. Of course, the reality is such a food program cannot cure all the ailments, but can control or reverse most of the chronic diseases of affluence, such as high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Doctor’s supervision is advised with any drastic health change. Careful study of the nutritional requirements is necessary to ensure all necessary vitamins and minerals are consumed.

I ate a Western Pattern Diet throughout my life, and tended to exercise at least sometimes. At age 48 when my cholesterol had been normal but rising, and finally measured around 210, which is considered elevated risk of heart attack. I was embarrassed I might have to increase the usual set of drugs seen in many people my age and older. In just a few weeks, it dropped to 124 (ideal), and so far has stayed there, almost 3 years running, now. It lowered my blood pressure enough to be normal even after coming off a small dose the medication for it. Furthermore, I lost 50 pounds, kept it off and my resting heart rate is also normal, which was previously high and controlled by medication. Victory!

There is a discipline required to it, yes: the food is easier to cook and much more satisfying after the initial period but working out takes more discipline for me.

I hope to provide an easy link to all the motivational and informational media sources that kept me on the straight and narrow being successful at this strict but satiating food program.
